Although the LS was a uniquely overbuilt car, many Lexii follow in its footsteps. Toyotas are definitely a step down in quality from Lexii. Even for things like the gaps between sheet metal, Lexii are made better. The LS had 20 mm gaps between its doors and frames, a standard that the Toyota Corolla didn't reach until I concede that almost every Lexus has been sold as a Toyota.

However, every Lexus is built to Lexus standards which always exceed Toyota standards. Even if the car will eventually be badged as a Toyota though that only really happens in the Japanese and Middle Eastern Markets. But we don't learn much comparing Lexus to Toyota. I can only sum it up with this observation: Ze Germans try their hardest to make sure the cars leaving their factories are the best cars in the world.

Toyota works at building cars that don't go bad after they leave the factory. Audi is the worst offender at this. Audis drive amazingly well off the showroom floor, but I don't personally know of any Audi that's made it , miles on the powertrain it left the factory with. Whereas I can't count the number of Lexii I know of that have hit , miles. And I've even seen some hit , miles. If that's not "proof in the pudding" I don't know what is.

Just the other day, I got a ride in an S65 and it was objectively superior to my LS in every way imaginable. It was quieter, faster, more luxurious, had more technology although I imagine a newer LS would narrow the gap. However, my LS will hit , miles eventually and history shows that the LS will only need new fluids, brakes, and timing belts to manage that feat. And my friend who owns the S65 would never own a Mercedes out of warranty.

Whereas I'm so confident in the reliability of Lexus, I'd never buy a new one. I'd much rather get one after it takes its big deprecation hit. If it's well maintained, it'll last a considerable time.
